Dublin, 15th December 2015 – The ILCU Foundation has been presented with the FW Raiffeissen Award 2015 by the Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Union (NEFSCUN) at the 24th annual general meeting in respect of its support to the movement during its initial development. The award was accepted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Cooperatives, Honbl. Mr Chitra Bahadur KC on behalf of the ILCU Foundation at the AGM, where 2,400 savings and credit cooperative leaders were present.
Speaking about the award, Alan Moore, ILCU Foundation General Manager, said, “On behalf of the Board and Staff of the ILCU Foundation we are sincerely grateful for this recognition by the Board of the Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Union. We began to work with NEFSCUN in 1992 and we were in a position to provide specialist technical support to the movement which contributed to its growth into the successful movement that it is today.
We also had the ability to provide aid effectively and efficiently following the disastrous earthquake this year which killed thousands of people, destroyed a number of Savings and Credit Cooperative buildings and their members’ homes due to the financial contributions which we receive from our generous supporters in Ireland.
This recognition is a testament to our work which is supported by members’ and credit unions throughout Ireland, without their backing we wouldn’t have been in a position to help NEFSCUN; I would like to dedicate this award to our supporters.“
